Berthe Morisot and Impressionism.For the first time, the Marmottan-Monet Museum is organising a major retrospective, planned for spring 2012, devoted to the artist Berthe Morisot. Several paintings, pastels, watercolours, sanguine chalk and charcoal drawings by the artist will be presented to the public creating an overview of the career of one of the greatest women Impressionist artists. The exhibited works have been assembled from collections around the world.Born in 1841 in Bourges, Berthe Morisot settled in Paris with her family in 1852. Subsequently, she took courses in painting and met the painter Fantin-Latour, and through him she met Edouard Manet, for whom she posed in the canvas Le Balcon.They married a few years later. The subjects of her works are portraits of women, children and family scenes like her American contemporary Mary Cassatt. She bequeathed her works to her artist friends including Degas, Monet and Renoir.
